Some high clouds did pass over the state during the night with light southeast winds. Temperatures were cool in the east with readings in the upper 40s to low 50s. Farther west, temperatures were warmer in the lower 60s. The quiet conditions are forecast to persist into the morning with warming temperatures after sunrise. Storms across the Dakotas are forecast to drop southeast today and may cross into the state by midday affecting far northwest into west central Iowa into the afternoon. However, much of the state will see tranquil weather during the day with near normal temperatures. Tonight and beyond: Showers and storms are forecast to move deeper into the state tonight and Saturday as a system drops through the Midwest. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible into Saturday with the threat of severe weather remaining low. As the system departs on Sunday, the precipitation will come to an end with some partial clearing along with temperatures remaining below normal. Gradual warming is expected into next week with little threat of precipitation until later in the week. $$
