Six Hour Snowfall

Posted: 12 Feb 2025 06:21 AM

Snow is falling over much of Iowa this Wednesday morning. One of the ways you can keep track of how much snow has fallen is by tracking the six hour snowfall reports from the NWS. The IEM has a tool that summarizes these reports by day and either state or NWS Forecast Office. Typically, you do not want to measure snowfall at intervals less than six hours as accumulated values will be inflated compared with measurements that allow the snow to settle/compact. The featured table shows the current reports ending at 6 AM, which represent a six hour period between midnight and 6 AM today.
