Where Sunday's Rain Fell

Posted: 08 Sep 2020 05:55 AM

Significant rainfall events have been hard to come by for much of this growing season. The situation has changed this week with heavy rainfall falling over eastern Iowa on Sunday. The featured chart presents where the rain on Sunday fell partitioned by the previous 30 day departure from average. For instance, the first set of bars represents the area of the state that was at least three inches below average over the past 30 days. The chart shows that practically the entire state needed rainfall, but the rain did not cover it all. There are plenty of chances of rain in the forecast this week as some drought busting will happen.
