Second Max High this Year

Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:44 AM

The high temperature on Tuesday reached 83 degrees for Des Moines, which set a new record for the date surpassing the old record of 80 degrees set in 1991 and 1893. This was the second record set this year for high temperature. The featured chart presents the number of new daily records set by year. The color of the bar represents if that year was above or below a simple statistical model for now many records should be set that year. For the past 20 years, it is interesting to notice the difference with none of the years above this trend line for low temperature. The near term forecast has no chance of setting another daily high temperature record with highs next week struggling in the 40s.
