Cedar Rapids Sub 50 then Sub 40

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 05:34 AM

Morning lows on Thursday were a bit chilly over eastern Iowa. The temperature dipped below 50 degrees for the first time this fall season for Cedar Rapids. Does such an event hasten even colder temperatures? The featured chart presents the first date of sub 50 temperatures after 1 July and then the subsequent number of days until the first sub 40 degrees occurred. The dashed lines provide a gauge to convert the number of days into a subsequent date. The red line is a simple linear regression fit. The chart shows only a slight bias toward later first event dates equating to even later second event dates.
