Smallest Daily Range by Month

Posted: 03 Sep 2019 05:32 AM

There were a few days this past August that temperatures struggled due to rain, thick clouds, and/or fog. The featured chart displays the smallest daily temperature range between the reported high and low temperature. Based on preliminary data, Mount Ayr (SW Iowa) was able to tie such a record for August with a range of just 3 degrees reported during the morning of 26 August. It is interesting to see that the lowest values during the late summer months have not been reported below 3 degrees. Even with very thick clouds, it is difficult to prevent all of the sun's energy from being able to provide some heating and already warm soil temperatures likely help as well.
