Hot weather has been difficult to come by so far this season for much of the corn belt. Accumulated growing degree days have been thus lagging as well. The featured map presents a bit of optimism that the coming seven days will feature positive accumulated growing degree day departures. This map is based off of 12 hour interval high and low forecasts from the NWS NDFD grid. This forecast is compared with long term climatology of growing degree day accumulations over the same period. Recently it seems that any warm up is accompanied by storms and nagging clouds, so hopefully this cycle can be broken for a bit.
