It would appear that all parts of Iowa dipped below zero this morning. How often does this happen? The daily temperature spreads application can easily answer this question. The dashed line represents the histogram of temperature occurances and the solid line is the cumulative distribution function. Having a low temperature below zero happens roughly once every 5 years, while having a high temperature below zero happens only once every 50 years. Luckily, we should see high temperatures creep above zero, but it will still be very cold!
