While not quite as warm as previous days this week, temperatures were still rather mild for late October in the 60s. The featured chart presents some metrics on having an hourly air temperature of at least 60 degrees for Des Moines during October. The top panel shows the October total each year with years having less than 80% data coverage shaded in blue. The bottom panel shows the average hourly frequency and the totals for 2023. The past six years have been three below average and three above average, so having such warm hourly temperatures has not been recently certain. We'll have another mild day on Thursday before the big changes arrive and we plunge into something that feels more like winter that will last into next week.
