Woeful Total for Cedar Rapids

Posted: 29 Aug 2023 05:30 AM

Of the long term climate sites tracked by the IEM in Iowa, the lowest precipitation for the year to date can be found at Cedar Rapids with just 14.40 inches. The featured chart presents the year to date precipitation for this year, the envelope for all years, and the NCEI 1991-2020 climatology shown in black. Selected other years are shown for the max and min values along with the two major recent drought years of 2012 and 1988. It is interesting to see this year tracking right along with 2012, but has recently made a run to catch up with the 1988 total. The bad news is that the near term forecast looks bone dry.
