First 50

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 05:35 AM

An overdue taste of spring is set to arrive today and last for a few more. Places like Des Moines are expected to see their first 50+ degree temperature of the calendar year. The featured map displays an analysis of the average first date of 50+ degrees and those locations have have already made it this year. For Iowa, only the southern few tiers of counties are indicated to have previously reached this level. The climatology shows that much of Iowa is a bit behind average for the first date. It remains to be seen how far north the really warm air gets, but it will feel more like spring for sure.
