'23-'24 Snowfall Departures

Posted: 25 Apr 2024 05:30 AM, Views: 199
Given the forecast to end April and the following week outlooks from CPC, Iowa may have seen the last snowfall of the season. So it is a good time to check in on how this season's total compared with climatology. The featured map presents NWS daily climate reporting site snowfall departures. A negative value indicates an accumulation below a climatological average. Most of the Midwest is shown in red with some very large departures found, including Mason City with 26 inches below average for the season! The lack of snow and associated snow cover have certainly helped spring be very warm over the region this year.
